Kane began working with GJCRM in 2013 before undertaking a Ph.D. at the University of Western Australia (UWA) from 2013 – 2018. Kane is currently employed as a senior field archaeologist with GJCRM while continuing to pursue research with UWA. The vast majority of Kane's current consulting experience and research is  centred on north-western Australia in places like Barrow Island, Cape Range and throughout the Pilbara. As a result, Kane has generated considerable experience in excavation, survey and working with various industry and indigenous stakeholders. Kane's areas of expertise, both in consulting and research, are: stone artefact analyses (method and theory), coastal archaeology (Australia and more generally), Pleistocene archaeology (Australia), field methods and chronological analyses.
