Fremantle Prison

In 2014, Gavin Jackson Cultural Resource Management conducted archaeological monitoring of trench excavations in the female division, west workshops and the terrace areas of the Fremantle prison. The project was commissioned by ADC on behalf of Youth Hostels Australia to build tourist accommodation. A large assemblage of European historical material including glass bottles, ceramics, animal bone and metallic objects dated to the 19th to mid 20th century were excavated and salvaged. All project outcomes were successfully completed and the work was completed with outstanding results in health and safety.
